Dear CENTURY Golfers,
BIG ANNOUNCEMENT!
This summer, we are adding a second tournament just like The CENTURY on our way to the unveiling next summer of an exciting new tour of 4 two-day events to be called "THE MICHIGAN JUNIOR MAJORS," which will be played the Monday and Tuesday of the weeks of the 4 professional majors and on courses as similar as possible to the courses the pros will be playing. All of our tournaments will permit caddies and spectators just like The CENTURY.

THIS SUMMER
This summer, our first tournament will be THE JUNIOR OPEN, held Monday and Tuesday, July 13th and 14th, on the world-class HawksHead Links in South Haven! (You will notice that is the week of the British Open and you are playing on a great links course, just like the pros!) We are extremely grateful to HawksHead Links for not only their participation but their enthusiasm for the future MICHIGAN JUNIOR MAJORS TOUR.
Our second event this summer will be the following Monday and Tuesday, as previously scheduled, July 20th and 21st when we hold the final "CENTURY" tournament. (We say "final" because, beginning next year, the tournament will become part of the MICHIGAN JUNIOR MAJORS tour.) Any player from a previous CENTURY tournament with a lifetime pass to play in our Tournament of Champions (any past flight winner who is 21 or older) will be valid for the corresponding tournament on the new tour.
ADDING A NEW TEAM COMPETITION
Additionally, beginning this summer, we are extremely excited to announce we will add a "team" or "community element" to our tournaments in addition to the individual competition. Here's how this works: You may bring friends of varying ages and genders as a "team," but each team member must be from your same community. (The M.H.S.A.A., which governs high school competition, does not permit the use of the word "team" because high school teams may not compete together, which we understand and support.) So, rather than everyone being from your same school, they must simply be from your same community. After each day we will total your low 3 scores. Each day the low 3 scores could be from different players from your community in our tournaments. Whoever has the low 36-hole team total will receive the trophy, and each individual will receive a smaller trophy.

Without a title sponsor for either of these tournaments, to be able to host them for this non-sponsored summer we will need to increase the entry fee to $95 for each tournament. This was a decision that we considered at great length given the difficult economic climate, especially in Michigan. We debated whether we should cancel everything for this summer and start fresh with our new tour next summer, but the overwhelming response from players and parents was they wanted to play this summer.
So... tell all your friends who play golf -- we need your participation!
Anyone with any questions, comments or suggestions is encouraged to call me, Barry Shanley, at 269-501-2676. Hopefully we'll see you at HawksHead Links near South Haven July 13 and 14 and at Pine View near Three Rivers July 20 and 21!
As always, thank you for your support. Hope you are as excited as we are!
